Legitimate Business Names Used In Email Scam
There are a lot of legitimate companies that are used by scam artists to perpetrate an email scam.
Washington Mutual was used in an email scam that used spoof email links to a spoof webpage where a victim was prompted to enter their details believing the site was genuine. The details that were entered are then forwarded to a local script and captured. The spoof webpage was traced to Brooklyn, New York.
AOL was used in an email scam that used spoof email links to a spoof webpage. The email claimed to be from AOL asking to confirm account data by clicking on the link. The link took victims to a spoof login page where their details were captured by the phishers. The spoof webpage was traced to Singapore.
